On the 5th September 2020 a historic event took place in Al Sqeilbiyyeh, northern Hama. Commander of the Al Sqeilbiyyeh volunteer National Defence Forces, Nabel Alabdalla, presided over a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of a smaller replica of the ancient symbol of religious diversity – the Aya Sophia temple in Istanbul.
I have created this video to give you a little of the emotions and depth of feeling on this historic day. These people are my friends, my family. I have spent two years sharing their lives, under rocket fire, the funerals of their loved ones, the liberation parties when the Syrian Arab Army drove the internationally-backed terrorist occupiers out of the land surrounding these Syrian Christian towns. I have lived among them. Every person in these images is a friend, someone I love dearly.
I hope these images convey their courage, their profound love of their country and its people, their resolve, their patriotism and their unity. Look into their eyes and you will understand why this country has withstood ten years of invasion, economic terrorism and war. Look into their eyes and you will see suffering, hardship, hope and love. Look into their eyes and you will see why we have a future to look forward to. Look into their eyes and you will not look away again.Syria will never lose the war against international terrorism
